1. Using Four Voices of Design to enable Trust-based Philanthropy

The four voices of design describe four perspectives that help us work within a complex system: the voices of intent, experience, expertise and design. These four voices carry the project through an end-to-end design journey, and ultimately help to move design from a place of empathy to one of execution.

When we apply a lens of the four voices in making change, we can see that everyone has a role to play from funders, system owners, communities with lived experience and subject matter experts. The voice of design brokers all these voices. Using HCD (human-centred-design) tools, they amplify these voices towards equitable change. The four voices of change enable Trust-based Philanthropy because funders can be involved in the right way and at the same time relinquish power to communities. Funders can hold intent while communities can hold the best way of realising that intent in their context and for themselves.

2. Human Centred Design for Targeted Universalism

Targeted Universalism is setting universal goals and using targeted processes to achieve these goals. Within a Targeted Universalism framework, the system sets universal goals for all groups concerned. Human-centred-design gives a methodology to Targeted Universalism. It provides ways to understand and design targeted pathways to achieving the universal goal.

In this course we will learn about the empathy approach to uncovering meaningful diversity of experience, tools for mapping that experience and analyze what needs to be different in systems to get to the targeted goal.

We will learn to pinpoint critical system change to respond to diversity and take actionable steps towards dismantling systems of opression.

3. Building Transformative Capacity for Transformative Change

While trainings have a role to play, capacity building is about new mindsets, new practices, new expertise, new spaces for working differently and reframing of leadership.

This course will take you through the ThinkPlace framework of building transformative capacity and will give you a way to assess your current state of capacity along with a roadmap of where you want your capacity to be. We will demonstrate with live examples of how building transformative capacity generates not just change but a platform for sustainable change long after the capacity partners have finished the engagement.
